Magazine Genre Research- T Magazine
The final magazine I'm looking at is T magazine, short for The New York Times Style Magazine. The cover of this magazine is in a more unique style, as the magazine name is made smaller and placed to the right of the photo shoot photo rather than above it. I also notice that the color scheme here doesn't blatantly match but instead, it has text in a mint green color while the model wears mismatched prints. Despite the variety of colors used, the cover is simple and includes a white background, giving off the feeling of it being a more high fashion publication. Articles that are included in this magazine exemplify the same high-end feeling of the cover as it involves designer brands and interviews about more complex and thought provoking topics. For example, there is an article that is selling expensive suits for women through model shots, while another talks to a conceptual artist who discusses the meaning of art itself and each of its layers. The titles of these articles are,"A Contemplative State", and "The Absurdity", again proving the fact that this print is likely catered towards a more affluent, educated group of people. The articles are accompanied by a large amount of advertisements, for the most part having a two page spread with an article on the left and an advertisement on the right, or vice versa. A majority of the advertisements used were for expensive brands including Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Calvin Klein, Burberry, and Guess. These advertisements were heavily scattered throughout, with the first 69 pages being solely devoted to selling these products. On page 70, the table of contents is introduced with the same sophisticated and simplistic style as that of the whole magazine. The photo used here is a shot of a model with a plain background and the contents described to the left of the medium size picture. The distribution for this magazine is done in the U.S. as it is one of the New York Times other forms of print media. T magazine was the winner of an Ellie Award in 2004, as well as earning one in 2018 for General Excellence in the Service and Lifestyle Category.
