Allure December 2017 : Amber Heard by Daniel Jackson

The next magazine I chose to look at was the December 2017 issue of Allure. This magazine's cover uses the same layout I've seen with every fashion magazine, where a photoshoot photo of the celebrity is what draws your eye to the magazine. Unlike other magazine however, this one has all white text used and doesn't attempt to match a color used in the photoshoot. The font used for the magazine title is slightly different and adds interest to the cover, while the other fonts are less flashy and more simple. Also to note is how they boast to be "The Beauty Expert" at the top of the cover, hoping to attract more people and make them want to read further into the magazine. Articles included are ones selling makeup products, skincare, along with more than one article interviewing a celebrity on issues dealing with self-image and loving yourself. Some article titles are once again are a play on words such as, "Backstage Beauty" and "She Will Be Heard", the article interviewing the cover model, Amber Heard. These empowering articles, mixed with beauty products more reasonably priced shows how this magazine is likely targeted at a younger audience of college aged girls. Advertisements included are for more reasonably-priced and affordable products such as Aveeno Positively Radiant Shower Facial mixed in with higher end products such as a Dolce & Gabana perfume and Tiffany & Co. sunglasses. These advertisements appear dispersed throughout the entire issue, most being next to a one page article, however only two come before the table of contents, more uncommon for a fashion magazine. In this issues table of contents, they opted for placing a smaller photo above where the contents of the issue are. In some of the articles, products are placed in a collage fashion with descriptions of what each product is below it, while others used one or two large photos to accompany a smaller amount of text. This magazine shows a lot of variation and doesn't stick to one style. The distribution number for this magazine is 1,172,324 in the United States. As for awards, Allure won an award for design in 1994 from the National Magazine Awards.
