Digital Distribution Research: Vogue
To adapt to the age of technology, print magazines have had to find new ways to distribute their magazine digitally. One way in which they do this is by providing an app that can be used on various different devices. The Vogue app is available to people who currently subscribe to the print edition of the magazine, giving them more benefits and a more appealing reason for others to buy the magazine as well. The Vogue app can be used on numerous different devices, which helps to widen the company’s range of customers. Devices included are the iPhone, iPad, Kindle, and the NOOK tablet. To get access to this app, subscribers will sign up by entering either the name and address on their magazine mailing label or their subscription account number. In the case of the NOOK, your subscription to the print edition should immediately transfer over and the subscriber can enjoy the digital edition free every month. Available on this app is various news stories, fashion trends, and editor's picks. The user is able to receive new content daily and read about the latest news in the fashion world. This is effective in distributing the magazine to a wider audience because those who use the app are exposed to all that Vogue has to offer and may be intrigued to read more.
I personally believe I could easily incorporate this form of digital distribution into my own magazine distribution. As Vogue is an extremely successfully fashion and lifestyle magazine, also finding success with these apps, I could create my own app/apps similar to these to draw in a larger audience of readers.
